Ultraviolet (UV) varnish is a glossy, shiny liquid coating that gets applied to a paper surface and then is cured or hardened with ultraviolet light. It can be used on almost any paper but works best on thicker paper stock such as business cards, postcards, calendars, etc. It provides a long-lasting finish available in both glossy and matte.
In UV varnishes, the percentage of solid resin content determines its performance – gloss and adhesion, drying times, and odor levels. The higher solid content varnishes (100%) are solvent free. The lowest solid content varnishes that we sell are 85% – there is more solvent in those varnishes and their performance is reduced compared to 100% varnish.
Analogicly we would like to use an example with gasoline in Indonesia, there are several grades available for use in different situations. Premium gasoline has the highest octane rating and is used in vehicles where higher performance is desired and costs more money. Regular gasoline has a lower octane level, costs less, and is used in different situations.

This might best be illustrated by the following:
Higher solid content = higher price
Too much solvent = decrease adhesion and gloss performance
For those customers who require a varnish already diluted with solvent, we offer an 85% solution. It has good gloss performance. It must be remembered that when the solvent evaporates during the application, more solvent must be added to make it liquid. If too much is added, the gloss will be lowered as well as the adhesion.
For the highest gloss and adhesive performance, we offer a 100% solid content varnish.
